What is posMERC?
posMERC is an EPOS (till) system for independent shops in the UK. One system covers the till at the counter, stock, a back office you can reach from anywhere, and your own web shop.
Which shops is it for?
Small independent shops: sweet shops, delis, farm shops, gift shops and corner shops. It is built for shops that sell by the unit and by weight, run offers and want to sell online too.
Can I sell loose items by weight?
Yes. Weighed items are priced per kg or per 100 g, and the till reads the weight from a connected scale.
Does the till keep working if the internet goes down?
Yes. The tills talk to a small server in your shop over the shop network, not over the internet, so sales carry on. The shop server itself must be running: it is part of the system and holds your data.
Where is my data kept?
On the shop server in your shop. You reach the back office from anywhere through a secure connection, but nothing in the shop is exposed to the internet. Backups can be made from the back office.
What hardware does it work with?
The till runs on a Windows touch-screen PC. It works with receipt printers (network or USB), cash drawers, weighing scales and barcode scanners, and records card payments taken on your card terminal. The scanner app runs on Android phones.
Do I have to buy hardware from you?
No. posMERC does not sell hardware. You can use suitable kit you already have, and our hardware partner can supply what you need. We talk it through on the demo.
Does posMERC include a web shop?
Yes. Your shop gets its own branded web shop with click & collect and delivery, stock taken live from the till, PayPal and card payments, customer accounts and gift vouchers.
How do gift vouchers work?
You sell gift vouchers at the till or online. Each has a code printed as a barcode and a QR code; online vouchers are emailed to the person you choose, on the day you choose. They are spent in parts, in the shop or online, and what is left stays on the voucher. They are valid for 12 months by default.
Can it run offers like 3 for £2.50 or a meal deal?
Yes. Offers such as "3 for £2.50", weighed offers and meal deals are applied automatically at the till. You can also create promotion codes for the till and the web shop.
How does it handle VAT?
It works for VAT-registered shops and for shops that are not. Prices can be entered with or without VAT; receipts can show a VAT table with the net, VAT and total for each rate, and the reports show the VAT.
What reports do I get?
An X report during the day and a Z report at close with a guided cash count, plus sales, refunds and net takings by day and by payment type for any date range.
How do refunds work?
Scan the barcode on the receipt and the till opens that sale. Choose what to refund; a manager approves it with their PIN when needed.
How much does it cost?
Prices are not published yet. We are taking on a small number of founding shops, who get setup help and a founding price.
What support do you give?
Support by email, phone and WhatsApp. We set up the shop server and tills and help you import your products.
How do I see it working?
